One thing that kept coming to my mind was that it would be fun to just have a chatroom for this forum... Just to talk to other members freely. So I figured "Why not?" and made the following:

Heaven and Earth Unite

The name of the chatroom is Heaven and Earth Unite; I picked it because I found it fitting (and...well... the name "Heaven and Earth" was already taken So I did the best that I could with the name). I don't know if the chat will ever take off or not, if anyone will ever use it much, etc., but I thought it would make for a nice option for anyone just wanting to chat in general (like me).

So what do you guys think?

I think this is great. It gives the old bats (like me) to get to know some of the new(er) members. Since there might be a new LiveChat in the works...this can be used in the meantime while Smiter and the Staff figure out the kinks.

The only downside I see on this is it is unmoderated by the staff. And from past events, that's not good.

Ah yes...those moments from our chat. I once recalled I self-exiled myself from this very site because of some stuff that went on during the chats.

Agreed, that is a problem... but that's why I set up the chat as I did. Kages and Smiter here will be owners on the chat and the regular mods here will be mods there also.

Heh. I remember some of that stuff. They could never keep the chatroom properly staffed. Eventually things would go downhill.

That's the problem with chatrooms in general; somehow, someway, there's going to be a period where a moderator will not be around and that's when trouble starts, unless you've got a remarkably well behaved userbase.

Without a comparable experience, I can't say if we are better or worse than anyone else. But periodically we'd have fights and have temporary shutdowns. Usually once or twice every 3-6 months, except for a time in 2007 where we had a guy that picked so many fights by himself that he got banned.

Although none of that was what prompted the a moderator must be present rule. The incident that prompted that was much worse.

The original was shutdown because it's infrequent use made it where it wasn't worth Smiter paying a $150 a year for it.

I think this is a great idea! And since it's not technically a part of narusaku.com we don't have to worry about it being 'moderated' or not. Besides I believe our userbase is good enough to moderate themselves, and not have any pointless silly drama go down there =3
