#651936 Will you read the Spin Off?

Nope. Action shounen has really not an interesting genre to me for a long time.

#648826 Chapters 699 And 700 The End

Posted by roninmedia on 07 November 2014 - 02:41 PM in Latest Releases

I'd much rather be blindsided by a pairing that this long winded story development that finally blindsided me.

Let me abandon my quest for good action shounen with romantic development. Stick to romance shounen and seinen.

#572580 Hello Kitty is not a cat

Posted by roninmedia on 31 August 2014 - 12:16 PM in Arts & Entertainment District

She has a last name, it is 'White' and she has a pet cat.

What's wrong with her being a normal cat that is a girl?

#556710 Anti-Anime/Manga Piracy?

Posted by roninmedia on 02 August 2014 - 12:43 PM in Otaku Square

The biggest issue for anime and manga fans with this new push will be from the access to those less than popular series. One of my favorite mangas of all time, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, has never received an English localization and my only access to reading it has been through scanlations. This affects manga readers more than anime watchers as more top animes get the localizations; many top rated mangas never see the light of day in the U.S. For anime watchers, this could mean the wait for english localizations.

Buying anime direct from Japan carries a much heftier price tag than the U.S. release. The Sakurasou blu-rays from Japan have 3 episodes per disc and each disc runs about $85, while the U.S. is ~$60 for half the series. There is a difference in quality between the releases, but for most folks, it should not be discernable. But if you're buying the direct import, you should have more of a collector's mentality anyway, especially those massive price tags on the box sets (The only box set I will likely splurge on is the Miyazaki one if they ever put tthat together). Even with my income, I don't think I could digest spending $500-$600 for a 24-26 episode series that is only available in Japan.

Even then, I usually prefer the work of a good fansub group. You can nitpick on the word choice or context, but the fact that fansubs take the time to stylize the fonts better, karaoke effects as well as translating addition things such as signs makes some of these groups superior to a number of localizations.

I try to watch streaming anime through legal services, but a disappointment for me thus far.

Netflix: I was browsing the limited anime selection they had. Pretty much every anime they had was subpar video quality, no subtitles during the OP/ED (much less karaoke effects) and the subtitles within the actual episode was that atrocious yellow serif font with the black outlines (Took me back to the 1990's subtitles on VHS).

Amazon: Same issue with the subtitles. There's also putrid video quality. I was taking a look at Clannad and High School of the Dead looked worse than playing some of my PS1 games on the PS3. Other series had episode lists completely out of order.

Hulu: Larger selections but not that many newer titles

Cruncyroll: Simulatenous broadcasts, some niche titles, but the library could be bigger.

#548466 anyone else mad at microsoft for canceling the xp software coverage

Posted by roninmedia on 18 July 2014 - 12:34 PM in Tech Help

No, part of their standard roadmap of support. Typically, mainstream support ends 5 years after the release of an OS and extended support ends 10 years after its release.

I'll be more disappointed when WIndows 7 extended support ends. I have Windows 8 and 8.1 and a lot of my older programs and games get broken on Windows 8.1.

#546724 Sword Art Online

The first season of SAO covered 4 light novels volumes (1-4) and the first portion of Volume 8.

This second will for a certain cover at least 3 volumes (5, 6, 7) which includes Mother's Rosario. They may animate the second portion of Volume 8 as it is chronologically after the Phantom Bullet Arc. Season 2 will no doubtedly be slower paced than Season 1 as less is covered in the same number of episodes.
